“ I know it's silly of me to have felt intimidated by a stranger; ONE stranger. But, I'm human and so is Taylor.”
I'm not proud to admit that I took a break from writing reviews because of a troll. Luckily, it’s my first experience with a true online bully, however, their comments really got to me. I thought, "maybe they're right, who does care about my opinions?", and, "perhaps I am annoying". And then, a few days ago, I realized I made someone else's lie my truth which I know now, is a waste of my time. This all to say, I cannot imagine how Taylor felt when the entire world started to turn on her.
This documentary shows us a new version of Ms Swift that sheds light on her long journey to the top of the charts and the struggle to say there. It's certainly not what we thought we knew of Taylor but, instead, the whole truth instead of the watered down version we have seen in the news. What's captivating is how the camera captures the moments in between the moments. It highlighted the beats between breaths when she didn't know anyone was watching her which showed her vulnerability and raw truth.
The doc takes us on the journey of songwriting from conception to it hitting the (massive) stages. It was entertaining to watch Taylor discover the magic of her own talent and transform it into the bangers we all jam to in the car (admittedly or not). It's easy to follow the storyline even if you're not familiar with all of her songs or personal stories. By the end, you'll be a fan of Taylor Swift, the person, not just the brand or the artist.
I know it's silly of me to have felt intimidated by a stranger; ONE stranger. But, I'm human and so is Taylor. I hope this feeds the paparazzi, that have been starving for more info about her for years, and can satisfy the fans enough to give her some breathing room, because let's be honest, no one deserves to be bullied, famous or not..
